Charles was born on the 1st of May 1897, the son of Mr. W. H. and Mrs. E. S. Owens, of 501, Marsh Avenue, Kansas, Missouri, U.S.A. originally natives of Limerick, Ireland.

Charles was the younger brother of William Brabazon Owens (OC1167). He entered Campbell College in April 1911 and played for the 1st XV, 1913-14, and was also a school Prefect.

Charles was a Lieutenant on his death, killed while on detached duty with sapping platoons near Ginchy on 10th January 1917. He was with the 13th Battalion, West Yorkshire Regiment (Prince of Wales's Own), but attached to the 10th Battalion. He is buried at Guard’s Cemetery, Lesboeufs, Somme France.
