John was the son of Henry Bingham M.D. and Letitia Bingham of Belfast. John trained at Edinburgh University and became a Captain in the Royal Army Medical Corps. He was married to Alison Bingham, 3 Ulsterville Avenue, Belfast.

He is buried Mons (Bergen) Communal Cemetery, Belgium, Grave X.B.16. His inscription reads "Only son of Henry Bingham M.D. Belfast and beloved husband of Alison Bingham."
