William was born on the 15th July 1895, the son of G. McCaw from Grianan, Kensington Road, Belfast.
He attended Campbell from 1908 to 1910.
William enlisted in the 8th Battalion, Royal Irish Rifles.
The Commonwealth War Graves Commission lists his death occurring on 2nd July, not the 1st as listed on his inscription.
He is buried at the Mill Road Cemetery, Somme, France.
