Albert was the son of the Reverend William Lea of Killglass Rectory, Edgesworthtown County Longford. Albert came to Campbell in 1899, having previously been educated at Dr. Benson's School, Rathmines, Dublin.

Albert worked as a clerk for the Irish Land Commission before joining the 7th Battalion, Royal Dublin Fusiliers, and later being attached to the 10th Battalion. He is commemorated at Thiepval Memorial, Somme, France.
