He was the son of Mrs A.A.I. Smith, Annesley Mansions, Newcastle, Co Down and the late J.Irvine Smith B.L.
Samuel entered CCB in April 1904 and stayed until October 1906. He is buried at Blighty Valley Cemetery, Grave 111.J.8. The inscription on his grave reads "Beloved by all who knew him."
