Brian Stewart Brown was born 5th February 1897, the son of Frank and Jane Brown of 'Long Range', Bagenalstown, County Carlow.

He entered CCB in 1912 and was the older brother of Frank Stewart Brown (OC 1356). Brian was affectionately referred to as 'Bear' Brown by his fellow Campbellian, H. C. Baker (OC 1260). He is recorded to have played for the 1st XI of 1916.

Sadly 'Bear' Brown was killed in action on the 5 April 1918. He is buried at Hamel Military Cemetery, Beaumont Hamel, Grave 11.F. 33/3. His inscription reads "He answered the call".
