Mark was the son of Mark and May McDonald of Portaferry, County Down. Mark joined Campbell College in 1910. He accidentally drowned, near Inishowen in County Donegal. Mark is buried at Glenarm New Cemetery in County Antrim. His date of death in the CCB War Memorial is 4 August 1915, but the CWGC suggests he died on 2nd of that month.
